If you are a dog owner, you have probably noticed that it’s easy to get carried away when it comes to buying supplies for your dog. There are many useless things on the market for pet owners, and sometimes it can get rather hard to distinguish between the useful items for your pet and the useless ones.
One of the things many people ask about are dog boots. Are they really useful or are these just manufactured in order to get more money out of dog owners?
The answer is that it depends highly on where you live. If you live in an area where it rains a lot during large parts of the year, you might want to look into getting some dog boots or dog booties for your dog, since they will protect not only your dog’s paws, but also help you keep your house cleaner after your dog has been outside. If you live in a place where it doesn’t rain that often, this is usually more of a luxury thing to get, and might not be as necessary since you can probably stand the hassle that cleaning a bit more when it rains means.
In other words, take the weather where you live into account when you decide if to get dog boots or not.
If you do decide to get dog boots, keep the following in mind:
The boots have to be secured around your dog’s leg somehow, so they are comfortable for the dog to wear, but they should not fit too tight, since this might get very uncomfortable after a while.
Also make sure to measure your dog’s paws, so you get the right size for him or her, since both boots that are too large and too small will fit less well and bother the dog in different ways.
If you are buying dog boots to keep the paws dry and protected from rain water or snow, make sure the material they are made of is waterproof.
You might also want to consider disposable dog boots if you do not want to bother with cleaning the boots after use.
Another important thing to keep in mind is that it usually takes some getting used to when the dog starts wearing dog boots for the first time. Your dog has been barefoot his entire life after all, so this may feel like a big change for him or her. Most dogs do get used to the boots after a while though.
